NFPA Webinar: Implied Bias in Law: More concerning than you think

Presented by: Dr. Robert Diotalevi, Esq. LLM, Associate Professor, Florida Gulf Coast University

Implied or implicit bias is a form of bias that occurs automatically and unintentionally, that nevertheless affects judgments, decisions, and behaviors. Implicit bias in law is thought to be shaped by experience and based on learned associations between particular qualities and social categories, including race, gender and so on. Perceptions and behaviors can be influenced by implicit biases we have even if we are unaware we hold them. We will experience interactive learning opportunities through lecture, examples, a Power Point and then a question/answer period.
