©opyright.Com: Teaching Old Dogs New Clicks

As we author items online and in print copyright is ever so important to consider. Yet many are not familiar with the nuances of this area of the law. We must be educated to avoid plagiarism and copyright violations regarding writings. This session will attempt to provide an overview of important laws involving copyright.

After attending this session participants will be able to:

  • understand the basics of copyright law and its relevance to writing,
  • explain and apply the concepts of expression, fixation, originality, ownership, notice, registration and duration regarding written and Internet-based forms,
  • utilize and employ the ideas of fair use, public domain and expiration as exceptions to copyright requirements,
  • discuss and describe how the law affects copyright owners
  • recognize recent court decisions on the subject and analyze them, and
  • identify and evaluate current pieces of legislation involving copyright.

A Question and Answer period will follow the presentation.
