©opyright.Com: Teaching Old Dogs New Clicks As we author items online and in print copyright is ever so important to consider. Yet many are not familiar with the nuances of this area of the law. We must be educated to avoid plagiarism and copyright violations regarding writings. This session will attempt to provide an overview of important laws involving copyright.
After attending this session participants will be able to: - understand the basics of copyright law and its relevance to writing,
- explain and apply the concepts of expression, fixation, originality, ownership, notice, registration and duration regarding written and Internet-based forms,
- utilize and employ the ideas of fair use, public domain and expiration as exceptions to copyright requirements,
- discuss and describe how the law affects copyright owners
- recognize recent court decisions on the subject and analyze them, and
- identify and evaluate current pieces of legislation involving copyright.

Dr. Robert N. Diotalevi, Esq., LL.M.
For the past twenty-two (22) years Dr. Diotalevi has been an Associate Professor and Founding Program Coordinator of Legal Studies at Florida Gulf Coast University. He has been a lawyer for forty (40) years as a member of the Massachusetts and Florida bars. He possesses four (4) degrees and has been internationally published. In 2009 Dr. Diotalevi had a book published. It is entitled, “The Florida Paralegal,” with Attorney William Statsky and published by Cengage Learning.
Dr. Diotalevi has developed ten (10) courses for JFK School of Law and has taught several courses for National University.
Dr. Diotalevi was a professional broadcaster for eight (8) years and held managerial positions in radio news and production. Dr. Diotalevi’s works have been published in SMU School of Law’s Computer Law Review and Technology Journal, The Paralegal Educator, The Journal of Paralegal Education and Practice, and The Online Journal of Distance Learning Administration. He also serves as an editor several peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Diotalevi presents at national and regional law-related conferences as well as at various legal organizations around the country.
