Paralegals are at the forefront of valuing assets in post-death trust and probate administrations. Issues arise if we incorrectly value an asset, or are unaware of the questions we should ask our attorneys and accountants and clients when it comes to obtaining values for certain assets. This is especially true for estates that file a federal estate tax return for portability. We will discuss valuing assets for "regular" and “portability” estates, what questions to ask, and strategies for discussing these assets with your attorneys and accountants. We will not discuss portability tax returns themselves.
Learning Objectives: 1) Regular asset valuations vs portability valuations 2) Difficult assets to value: Closely-held business valuations 3) Difficult assets to value: Digital assets, unclaimed property, personal property, and more 4) Samples of inventory summaries based on specific administration. This webinar is worth 1.0 CLE credit.
