Paralegal Students and Educators

Welcome Students and Educators!

We are excited about our page with links to all the information and opportunities provided by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations. You may be familiar with your local NFPA member association (through which your NFPA membership and benefits are included) and we are the national parent organization, formed in 1974, the oldest national paralegal association in the U.S.

On this page you will find links to how you can become members, receive awards and scholarships for education, as well as helpful career assistance. We can answer the question of "how to become a paralegal" by providing links to essential education sources and certification as well as ethics resources. There is also a discussion forum to help you get your questions answered about the paralegal profession. At NFPA, we are always looking for your input as we are an organization driven by our membership of paralegals dedicated to the advancement of the paralegal profession.

Become a member: NFPA offers discounted individual student memberships! Find a NFPA member association near you and automatically become a NFPA member when you join through a local NFPA member association. Schools, libraries and other organizations interested in promoting the paralegal profession are invited to apply for organizational membership. Learn more about becoming a NFPA member.

Member benefits include:

National Paralegal Reporter: NFPA's quarterly magazine is printed in full color and mailed to each NFPA member. Circulation also includes paralegal educators, state and local bar associations and other legal professionals -- total circulation is over 9,000 copies! Subscribe as a nonmember. Students, ask your library to join or subscribe!

Awards and Scholarships: Each year, NFPA partners with Thomson Reuters to help paralegal students fund their education. For NFPA members, we also offer scholarships that cover the costs of becoming a certified paralegal.

Entering the Paralegal Profession: Thinking about enrolling in a paralegal education program? NFPA offers guidance on schools, programs and classes to help you choose the option that's right for you.

Certification: NFPA supports two certification exams, one specifically geared toward the new paralegal. We have information regarding study materials and study groups, both online and in person, and members get discounts!

Career Center: When you join NFPA, you gain access to our career center. See the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for more information about paralegal careers. Find a paralegal job near you!

Contribute to our blog: NFPA wants to hear from students and educators! This is your chance to get published and talk about a topic important to you as a paralegal. Submit your ideas to Tanya Patterson, NFPA Editorial Coordinator.

Student Discussion Board: If you have questions or advice for other paralegal students, share your thoughts on the NFPA Student Discussion Board! See our introductory topics regarding career motivation, time management and transferable skills. Go to the student discussion board. (You must be logged in to view the discussion board.)

When you’re ready to join, check to see if there's a NFPA member association near you. Membership in a local NFPA association also gives you membership in NFPA, so you can enjoy the benefits and resources of two paralegal associations. If not, apply for individual membership to jump start your career! Organizational memberships are also available.
