Tampa Bay Paralegal Association, Inc. (“TBPA”) is the local voice and the standard for excellence for the paralegal profession through its work on the issues of regulation, ethics, and education. Formed in 2000 and headquartered in Tampa, Florida, TBPA is a non-profit professional organization representing paralegals throughout the Tampa Bay area currently with over 130 members, although at times we have had as many as almost 180 members. TBPA served as the host for the 2007 NFPA Annual Convention.
TBPA holds monthly membership luncheons for CLE credits and also holds an Annual Seminar where members receive 6-7 credits, including at least 1 ethics credit. In 2014, our Annual Seminar; “It’s a Paralegal’s World – Investing in a Better You!” was presented to a sold out crowd of 145 local paralegals! Talk about a full house…
We look forward to the same success at our upcoming 2015 Annual Seminar: “Happy Trails...The Paralegal Journey Through a Trial!” TBPA periodically holds raffles during our luncheon meetings and annual seminar to raise funds to support community service projects, PACE and the USO-Central Florida!
Each year TBPA’s Board of Directors votes on our community service projects, and for 3 years we have supported the PACE Center for Girls – Hillsborough County, by participating in events and fundraisers, such as their Annual Rock ‘n Bowl event, where last year TBPA won the best costume award & our President, Barbara O’Shaughnessy, won the award for most funds raised!
For the past two years, TBPA members have volunteered with the local USO welcome center at the Tampa International Airport and at other local USO events.
TBPA continues its Pro Bono work with the local Wills for Heroes program, where our members work assisting with estate planning document preparation for first responders in the Tampa Bay Area. TBPA is proud to say that at our last event all 10 paralegals were members of TBPA! TBPA was the winner of the 2013 Association Pro Bono Award from NFPA for our work with the Wills for Heroes organization.
TBPA is supported in part by our various sustaining members in the fields of court reporting services, legal placement agencies, private investigators, etc., specifically longtime sustaining members SLK Investigations, Bolter & Carr, and Trial Consulting Services. Thank you for all that you do for TBPA – we truly appreciate it!
TBPA is proud to currently have 2 of its members on the board of NFPA, Yvonne DeAntoneo who currently serves as the Region III Director, and Nita Serrano who currently serves as the Vice President and Director of Paralegal Certification.
We can’t wait to see what the future holds for TBPA and the paralegal profession!
