GEORGIA PARALEGAL NAMED OUTSTANDING LOCAL LEADER
Karen Belcher, president of the Georgia Association of Paralegals (GAP), has been named winner of the 1999 DynCorp Award for Outstanding Local Leadership. The award is presented annually by DynCorp and the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) to recognize significant contributions to the paralegal profession through a local association.
GAP's nominating letter pointed out that Ms. Belcher has accomplished a tremendous amount during her brief three years as a paralegal. Ms. Belcher led GAP in establishing an annual member appreciation night, an annual pro bono meeting, a PACE scholarship, and an annual community project. Ms. Belcher is a volunteer mediator for the Bartow County Juvenile Court.
A graduate with honors from the National Center for Paralegal Training, Ms. Belcher is a paralegal in the Law Office of Julie Williams Cain, P.C., in Dallas, Georgia. She holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia.
Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, DynCorp is a contractor that provides litigation support to government and commercial clients. It also performs traditional litigation support nationwide for the Department of Justice. DynCorp established the local leadership award in 1997 to recognize paralegals who make ongoing, substantial contributions. Previous winners were Margaret Dick of New York and Deborah Baer McKinney, RP, of Ohio.
