NFPA DELEGATES AFFIRM PACE CRITERIA BUT CHANGE GRANDPARENTING DEADLINE
Delegates to the fall convention of the National Association of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) affirmed the criteria to sit for the Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam (PACE) but removed the requirement that paralegals in certain circumstances must apply by December 31, 2000.
Based on concerns about excluding experienced paralegals from PACE based on a testing date, the delegates removed the previous rule that persons qualifying solely on experience must take the exam before December 31, 2000. The exam will remain open to persons who can present evidence of four years' paralegal experience completed by December 31, 2000.
The delegates revisited the combined education and experience criteria for PACE and affirmed that these should remain the same. They are the combination of a bachelor's degree, two years' experience as a paralegal, and a paralegal certificate from an institutionally accredited school.
