DALLAS PARALEGAL CHOSEN TO LEAD NFPA INTO 21ST CENTURY
Sally Andress, RP, a family law paralegal with the Dallas, Texas, firm of Koons, Fuller Vanden Eykel & Robertson, was elected president of the National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc. (NFPA), at its spring convention, hosted by the New Orleans Paralegal Association. Ms. Andress is a past president of the board of directors of the Legal Assistants Division of the State Bar of Texas. Her local association is the Dallas Area Paralegal Association, which in 1996 named her its Paralegal of the Year.
Since 1997, Ms. Andress has served as NFPA's director of membership. Elected to follow her in that office was Victorialei ("Nohea") Nakaahiki, RP, of Honolulu, Hawaii. Other newcomers to the NFPA board are Mary Kay Rivera of West Nyack, New York, vice president and director of positions and issues; Jocelyn Acker of Fort Wayne, Indiana, treasurer and director of finance; Fay Wilson-Gorring of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Region II director, and Jill Warner of Buffalo, New York, Region V director. Ms. Warner will be the first person to represent the newly-created Region V.
Returning to the board are Betty Zimpfer of Hamilton, Ohio, vice president and director of profession development; Melissa West of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, secretary and director of operations; Lee Davis of Phoenix, Arizona, Region I director; Susan Witherspoon, RP, of Dayton, Ohio, Region III director, and Kelly McKown, RP, Region IV director. Immediate past president Robin Solomon of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, becomes the board advisor. The board appointed Jolene Miller, a former NFPA president and former NFPA representative to the American Bar Association Approval Commission, as education coordinator.
The new president's primary goal is to educate attorneys, law school students, and consumers on proper utilization of paralegal services. In addition, she will seek to strengthen the relationship of NFPA and its member associations with other law-related organizations on both the local and national levels.
Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, NFPA is a non-profit professional organization representing more than 17,000 paralegals in the United States and Canada. NFPA is the national voice and the standard for excellence for the paralegal profession through its work on the issues of regulation, ethics and education.
