DynCorp, an professional services firm with a national litigation support practice headquartered in Reston, Virginia, has endorsed the Standard of Excellence set by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) by sponsoring an annual award to recognize excellence in leadership of a local association.

DynCorp approached NFPA with its offer to sponsor the award and turn a spotlight on a paralegal who is representative of the many men and women who volunteer hours through a local association. The award was initiated in 1996 when Margaret Dick, a founder of the Western New York Paralegal Association, was nominated and selected in recognition of her twenty years of volunteer service to and through her local association. Since that time DynCorp has sponsored the awards given in 1997 to Patricia Murphy Coleman of the Illinois Paralegal Association in 1997 and in 1998 to Deborah Baer McKinney, RP, of the Cincinnati Paralegal Association.

Thanks to DynCorp's sponsorship of the annual award, the winner will receive an expense-paid trip to NFPA's national convention in October 1999 in Atlanta, Georgia, at which he or she will receive a plaque from DynCorp and NFPA in recognition of the winner's achievements.

The deadline for nominations for the 1999 winner of the DynCorp Outstanding Local Leader Award is August 15, 1999. The application form can be found at www.paralegals.org/News/Awards/Leaderapp.html.

Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, NFPA is a non-profit professional organization representing more than 17,000 paralegals in the United States and Canada. NFPA is the national voice and the standard for excellence for the paralegal profession through its work on the issues of regulation, ethics and education.
