NFPA OPENS MEMBERSHIP TO MILITARY ASSOCIATIONS
In a move to encourage cooperation among civilian and military paralegals, delegates to the annual convention of the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) adopted a resolution inviting the U.S. Armed Services to form military paralegal associations that would join NFPA as member associations.
Said NFPA's Armed Services Coordinator Charlene Healy, RP, "The resolution regarding affiliation of military paralegals and NFPA will be a great asset to all involved. The paralegal profession and NFPA will benefit from the expanded networking and expertise of our highly trained military counterparts. Military paralegals will benefit from civilian contacts and the expanded educational opportunities made available to them. They will have the advantage of networking with local associations to help ease their transition back into the civilian lifestyle and workforce. Due to the unique circumstances
of military families, a whole new venue of pro bono activities is opening to civilian paralegals to help those who serve our country. This resolution creates a win-win situation for all!"
The resolution contemplates military paralegals enjoying full NFPA membership rights through the association formed by their branch of service. The resolution further provides that each military paralegal association shall be assigned to the one of NFPA's five regions in which its primary Judge Advocate General's office or school is located.
