West Group and the NFPA Announce the Scholarship Winners

West Group (West) and the National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc. (NPFA) are pleased to announce that Rebecca F. Ganci (photo on right) of Tolland, Connecticut, and Christine F. Delgado of Omaha, Nebraska, have been selected as recipients of the 1999 West/NFPA scholarships. Ms. Ganci receives $3,500 to continue her education at Hartford College for Women. Ms. Delgado receives $1,500 to further her studies at the College of St. Mary.

The judges based their selection on each winner's outstanding scholastic record, her contributions to the paralegal profession, her leadership in her school's program, and her essay on "How Paralegals Impact the Delivery of Pro Bono Services." In future issues the National Paralegal Reporter will publish both winning essays. West will fund travel and hotel expenses for the two winners to attend the 1999 Spring Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, where each will receive a plaque from West and NFPA.

Attorney Rosalind Katz, acting chair of the legal studies department at Hartford College for Women, wrote of Ganci: "She is and will be such a tribute to the paralegal profession. I cannot think of a better role model for aspiring new paralegals than Rebecca Ganci."

Attorney Melinda Hess, director of paralegal studies at the College of Saint Mary, noted that Christine Delgado is able to "look at the law in the legal and business sense, yet she understands and appreciates the human side of these issues," concluding that Ms. Delgado is "exceptional in every way."
