NFPA AND CALE ANNOUNCE ONLINE PACE REVIEW COURSE

The National Association of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) and the Consortium for Advanced Legal Education (CALE) are pleased to announce the initial offering of an online review course for the Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam (PACE).

The review course is available through CALE's established network providing advanced courses for legal professionals. Students may register by visiting CALE's web site at www.cale.org or NFPA's web site at www.paralegals.org/PACE.

The initial course will begin the week of January 31, 2000, and run for eight weeks, including a brief pre-course orientation to familiarize students with the software used by CALE. CALE courses are taught through computer-mediated distance learning. Students may communicate with instructors or classmates around the clock from their home or office computer. The second course is scheduled for April 24, 2000. If sufficient inquiries are received additional courses will be added prior to the April 24th date.

The review course will help paralegals prepare to take PACE by covering the five domains: administration of client legal matters, development of client legal matters, factual and legal research, factual and legal writing, and office administration.. Ethics questions are found in each domain. The textbook will be the PACE Study Manual available from NFPA, and a sample PACE exam will be administered at the conclusion of the course.

The review course arrives at a propitious time, as the grandparenting window in which to substitute experience for education closes on December 31, 2000. Persons intending to qualify to sit for PACE based on their experience alone rather than a combination of education and experience must submit an application postmarked on or before December 31, 2000. Because there is a six-months waiting period before an unsuccessful candidate can re-take the exam, persons intended to qualify under the grandparenting provision are urged to apply early in 2000.

Headquartered in Marietta, GA, CALE is a national, nonprofit education organization established to provide advanced specialty courses delivered through distance learning. CALE works in consort with its member educational institutions, publishers, and legal associations to provide continuing education to legal professionals.

Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, NFPA is a non-profit professional organization representing more than 17,000 paralegals in the United States and Canada, NFPA is the national voice and the standard for excellence for the paralegal profession through its work on the issues of regulation, ethics and education.
